Split pants for babies that use the potty

Take a infant pant pattern. I believe I used the back section for all pieces of split pants.

Extend the crotch by an inch (red).

Extend inseam an inch or so and waist by a few inches. ( I also extended the length of the legs as I wanted them to last longer)

There will be 4 pieces that are cut from the same pattern piece. Cut 2 on the wrong side and 2 on the right side.

Finish the crotches by turning the edges under to the wrong side.

Pin the right an left sides over lapping. On the back the left side will overlap the right (right) and in the front the right will overlap the left (left).

Baste the “wings” to form 2 pieces front and back. Also baste down about 1 ½ inches of the flap.

Pin the side seams (left) and sew them (right.)

Pin the inseams (left) and sew (right) then reinforce th open crotch by sewing across the inseams.

Fold the waist over to make a casing. Sew leaving opening for elastic.

Insert elastic. Sew ends together. Close opening.

Finish casing, hem legs.

The left leg of the pants will nest in the right leg.

Finished pants. This pair were made extra large on purpose so baby could grow into them.

Wear with underwear as regular pants or without for split crotch pottying pants.
